This
spark plug guide was based on the spark plug change on a BMW E46,
therefore spark plug changes for other BMWs will differ a little.
Pop
the hood and start removing the cabin filter as shown in the picture.
Pop
of the 3 screw like objects and the top should remove easily.
Go
ahead and take the Filter out and you will reveal 4 T30 Torx Screws,
go ahead and remove them
Now
you have full access to your whole engine cover, there will be 2
covers covering nuts on the left engine cover
Remove
them with a flathead screwdriver, be careful though because those
things will fall into the engine bay then it'll be a nice game of hide
and seek but then you notice that they fell into your oil spill below
after looking in the engine bay for 15min
Now
work on removing the nuts with your ratchet and 10mm socket
Once
removed you will now need to take off your oil filling cap and you can
remove your left engine cover
as
soon as the left engine cover is removed put your oil filling cap back
on so that no contaminates can fall into the engine
Now
you will see your coils
Note
that the outside coils have earthling straps, you will need to
re-connect them at the end.
Go
ahead and work on the 2 bolts on the upper left and bottom right
holding the coils into place
now
push up on the silver clip, sorta like your radio connector, it will
release the plug
Once
the plug is released you can now remove your coils, you can do this 1
by 1 or all at the same time, it doesn't matter.
Now
take your ratchet, extension, and spark plug socket and stick it down
into the hole, at the bottom you should see your spark plugs, go ahead
and remove them
Replace
all the spark plugs.
Now
re-insert the new spark plugs just how you removed them and torque
them down to 18 ft/lb torque or 216 in/lb
Re-assemble
everything just how you removed it and wallah you have changed your
spark plugs
